I have been enjoying my holidays for 2 months without realizing how time flies.

My classmates came to Kuching for 5 days and Diana and I actually hosted them by bringing them around the town. Basically, it was a "Foodthalon". Last night's dinner was the most memorable one as we took a sampan across the river to eat ayam penyet (Originally, we wanted to eat ayam pansuh but when we reached there, they told us that we were supposed to book in advance) at My Village in Kampung Boyan. The place was very traditional with very nice atmosphere if you exclude the wild cats, slow service and free music from the mosque. After dinner, we went to Open Air Market to have supper.

Other than being hosts, Diana and I went followed the doctors for ward rounds this week in SIMC. We managed to pick up different types of heart murmurs. =) During our first ward round, the matron scolded us for washing hands together in one sink. She said that was the first time she saw people washing hands that way. Then, during our second ward round (this morning), the matron scolded us again for not wearing our name tags. She actually warned us not to come back unless we have our name tags so I guess this morning was our last ward round as both of us seriously do not have name tags with us.

Homework 1: How to investigate coronary ischaemia?

Coronary ischaemia is the most common manifestation of coronary heart disease (CHD).

There are a few investigations which are most available and frequently used tests to identify coronary ischemia in clinical practice.

Exercise testing — Exercise testing appears to be the most suitable laboratory diagnostic test to document coronary ischemia in asymptomatic individuals (eg, patients with no history of CHD) and in those with a history of CHD or exertional angina. Exercise testing is frequently used to screen high risk, asymptomatic persons to identify those with asymptomatic CHD. Conventional ST segment analysis during ETT is moderately sensitive in detecting CHD. As a result, the diagnosis of myocardial ischemia by ETT in asymptomatic individuals must be confirmed by radionuclide imaging techniques (eg, thallium perfusion scintigraphy or exercise ventriculography) before the subject is labeled as having coronary ischemia.

Holter monitoring — Holter monitoring is the second most frequently used diagnostic test for coronary ischemia. It has the advantage of providing long-term ECG recording of ischemic and arrhythmic events while patients are engaged in routine daily activities out of the hospital. Episodes of transient ischemia during Holter monitoring are diagnosed by a sequence of ECG changes that include a flat or downsloping ST depression of at least 1 mm, with a gradual onset and offset that lasts for at least one minute.

Nuclear and echocardiographic imaging studies — Tests other than routine ETT and ambulatory monitoring may be necessary in certain circumstances. As an example, nuclear imaging tests such as stress thallium scintigraphy or exercise radionuclide ventriculography are recommended for the evaluation of coronary ischemia in patients who have an abnormal baseline ECG (eg, left ventricular hypertrophy or strain, bundle branch block, preexcitation syndrome), and those receiving digitalis, phenothiazines, or other drugs that produce repolarization changes. Pharmacologic stress tests with dipyridamole or adenosine plus thallium scintigraphy, or dobutamine stress echocardiography, can be utilized in those patients who are unable to ambulate or exercise (eg, due to advanced peripheral vascular disease)

Electron beam computed tomography — The severity of coronary artery calcification (CAC) on electron beam computed tomography (EBCT), as determined by a calcium score, can identify asymptomatic patients at high risk for coronary heart disease. However, it is not certain if this translates into identification of asymptomatic patients who have coronary ischemia.

In summary, these are the tests one can do to investigate coronary ischaemia:

My 3 months holidays

On the 2nd of December, I finished my EOS 5. My shoulders suddenly felt very light. The first week after my EOS 5, I was busy finding a house to stay in Seremban. I finally found one in Seremban 3 and I will be staying with my other 3 friends. The house is rm800 per month but it is unfurnished. Anyway, after settling the accomodation, I was busy packing and moving all my things to the new house. Man, moving house is definitely very tiring.

I took a short break with my family and relatives after that. It was a great reunion indeed. =)

After the short break, I have been slacking around in Kuching till today. Haha Well, at least I go for hospital attachment at SIMC and I get to learn new things every morning. I can say that is the most beneficial thing I have done so far during my holidays. In the afternoon, I will be baking cookies and cakes with my cousin and his wife while being a babysitter as well. Haha

I watched movies in the cinema very frequent till there is no more movie for me to watch right now and I have to wait for new movies to be out.

Anyway, that is just a bit of update since I have not blogged for a long time. =)

Short case: Heart murmurs

Throughout my attachment in SIMC, I have learned how to present a short case on heart murmurs. When patient comes to you, first, identify the age. If patient is old, it is more likely to be aortic stenosis. If patient is young, it can be mitral regurgitation, aortic regurgitation, mitral stenosis or congenital defects such as ventricular septal defect, atrial septal defect and patent ductus arteriosus. Second, check for clubbing and scars. If none is present, congenital defects are unlikely to occur. Next, palpate or auscultate for the apex beat. If it is displaced, it is either mitral regurgitation or aortic regurgitation and hence, mitral stenosis can be ruled out. Now, one is left with either mitral regurgitation or aortic regurgitation. Auscultate the back for murmur. If a systolic murmur is heard from the back, it is mitral regurgitation since that is the only murmur which can be heard from the back.

Time flies! It is time to start blogging again! I was so busy throughout this whole semester that I did not even have the time to blog. My final semester before going to clinical years was a really stressful semester. I had to memorise all the systems with only 2 weeks of study break. It was crazy! I am glad I passed and it is over now. Thanks to my helpful friends, lecturers and not to forget, my mentor from Kuching. =D I will miss my friends who will be going to overseas instead of Seremban to do their clinical years especially Sin Dee and Hui Hwen. Not to forget Jonathan as well who was so willing to be my patient for me to practise my clinical skills.

2 days of field work for Community Medicine in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan

We just started our Community Medicine on Monday. We were divided into many groups to carry out our Community Medicine project. My group was assigned to Nilai. There were 36 of us. We further divided our tasks among ourselves. Some of us studied the organizational structure in the Klinik Kesihatan Nilai. Others did the household survey and the research project. I was involved in household survey. For the household survey, we did a survey to know how much the people in Nilai know about Diabetes. Our instrumentation was a questionaire. Wow, I thought questionaire was an easy job. It was not at all. We walked so much in the hot sun around the big neighbourhood in Nilai and it was from house to house. There were dogs in some houses and we were rejected by the people in some houses. We had to collect at least 250 data and we managed to collect more than 300 data. For our research project, we did a cross sectional study on how much people in Nilai know about Dengue. Tomorrow, we have to start to key in all the data and use the SPSS software for our data analysis and results interpretation. Next week, we have to present it to all the doctors who specialized in Community Medicine.

A new semester, a new beginning

I will be starting my new semester tomorrow. No doubt that it was hard to leave Kuching but I have been telling myself that I should not be sad as each time I get back here, it is coming nearer to the day I get my certificate. =D Instead, I should work hard from tomorrow onwards!! I am satisfied with my 4 weeks break in Kuching and now I should put the holiday mood aside and tune in to the study mood. I am ready to face Community medicine, Musculoskeletal system and nervous system for this coming semester! Not to forget, my 7 other systems. Yes, I have 10 systems for my final exam in December and I should start burning midnight oil from Day 1.

While I was looking out from the window in the plane back to KL last Tuesday, I suddenly thought of going to Penang. Haha I told my friend, Wen How who is staying in Penang about it. I finally bought a bus ticket to Penang after we confirmed about the plans. I asked Sze Ying to come along with me. We both reached Penang on a late Friday night. Wen How brought us back to his apartment and we stayed in his room for 2 nights.

The next morning, he gave us his car and GPS to go out because he had to work and he could not bring us out. We drove the car WITHOUT any LICENSE. Sze Ying and I started our day off with dim sum at Tian Tian Lai for breakfast.

It was a nice breakfast.

After the breakfast, we went to the Toy Museum in Tanjung Bungah.

I drove past USM and I was wondering whether Crystal was there.

I doubt Crystal plays football.

We depended on the GPS throughout the whole journey.

We wanted to go to P Ramlee's house after that but our GPS ran out of battery. That was when the REAL adventure began for the both of us. Two lost Kuching drivers in Penang. We decided to go to Gurney Plaza instead to find a handphone shop to charge the GPS. It took us an hour to find the directions to Gurney Plaza. We asked so many people, from going into a church to going into a hospital to ask for directions. We drove along Jalan Pangkor for more than 5 times. When we finally reached Gurney Plaza, we were so relieved. The shop charged us rm10 to charge our GPS there. We went shopping while waiting for it to be fully charged.

Actually, we planned to eat Penang Char Kueh Tiaw for lunch after going to P Ramlee's house but we had to give up that lunch for a sad lunch at A&W in Gurney Plaza instead.

When the GPS came back to live, we went to P Ramlee's house.

For God sake, I didn't know P Ramlee is no longer alive anymore till Sze Ying told me about it and said I was so dumb. We went back to Wen How's apartment after that. It took us so long to reach home just because we missed a turning. So near, yet so far. We didn't have time to shower when we reached home because Wen How said the place for dinner was pretty far and we had to go earlier. We went to Bukit Genting for Thai Food with his other 3 greenian friends.

How did I spend my time in Kuching so far?

Since I came back to Kuching, I have been trying to balance my time between playing and studying. At first, it was rather balanced but right now, it seems like my playing time is more than my studying time. I have been hanging out with my childhood friends back in Primary school most of the time here. It feels so good to talk about the good old times together. All the silly moments. haha We tried playing Zero point again but since we are older now, our stamina decreased. When we jumped for too long, we would feel dizzy as well. I guess the game is no longer suitable for us anymore. We prefer to sit down and talk instead now. We developed a new hobby. We go for karaoke now. That doesn't mean that we can sing. Usually, we lose our voice after singing and screaming in the room. We eat more since we can drive around now. We walk less compared to last time. We watch more movies now because we prefer to sit and relax. I am glad I manage to catch up with them when I am back. =)

Kuok Foundation, which was founded by Robert Kuok held a Get Together Lunch Buffet for all the awardees at Hotel Armada, Petaling Jaya in April.

They grouped us according to our tables and we started off by playing games as an ice breaking session.

Then, Dato Ong Ka Ting who used to be an adwardee of the Kuok Foundation was invited as a guest of honor to give us a speech.

We started our lunch buffet after the speech.

When I ate the bread pudding, it reminded me of Amanda Tan's bread pudding back in Kuching. I miss it.

Classical Guitar

One day back in Form 1, my friend, Audrey Ang asked me to accompany her to learn how to play a classical guitar. Since I was so free back then, I agreed with her. I went for classical guitar lessons with her for almost 2 years. We took exams together as well. Due to PMR, we both stopped learning to play a classical guitar. Last year, one of my coursemates, Sim, found out that I used to play a classical guitar and he asked me to teach him despite the fact that I told him I had forgotten on how to play a classical guitar. Since I was busy preparing for my End of System 3, I did not invite him to come to my place till few weeks ago at night. He told me he could not play (what a lie). When I played each note on the guitar and I asked him to tell me which note it was, he could answer all of them correctly. I started to doubt him for not being able to play a classical guitar at all. Yes, it was indeed a lie. haha He could play so well and he played it so much better than I could play. In the end, he entertained Nicole and I with all the romantic songs. Haha Romantic songs such as Right here waiting , Now and forever and Romance Te Amor. After that, we had free taekwando lessons from him. He looked gentle but he is a black belt master. He taught us self defence as he said girls must know how to defend themselves from danger.

Holiday Withdrawal Syndrome

I was given two months to be on a holiday mode but now, I have to switch back to a study mode. Back in high school, first day of school was a total holiday. I just had to register myself and buy the new books. Now, first day of school means first day of stress. Why? On the first day of school, I had problem based learning (PBL) at 9am to jot down all the learning issues which I have to do research on and present them this Friday. The topic was on Diabetes Insipidus. Then, I had clinical skills in the afternoon. We learned how to inspect, palpate, percuss and auscultate the thyroid gland. After that, I had to go for lectures in the evening till 630pm. I also have to take Malaysian studies for the whole semester. It is time to make notes for every lecture and memorise my notes everyday. I am doing Endocrine system now. It will be followed by Reproductive system and Renal system.

A break for two months in Kuching with my friends

I went out with Grace. We knew each other since primary one. I sat next to her in school for many years. Back then, she called me Ugly Teo and yeah, Ugly Teo remains as one of my nicknames now. We had so many sleepover parties together during high school. Not to forget our trip together to Sarikei after form three. Wow, we spent so many hours in the bus. Haha We had fun dressing up as twins in Sarikei. After all, no one knew us there. Yeah, we embarrassed ourselves there by wearing bandanas in town. We used to go to the arcade very often to play the games there. Recently, we met up to do what we used to do when we were younger. Other than the arcade, we went to sing at Enter K.

Li Hwa had a long break. Twice my break. I spent most of my time with her. My companion when I feel bored. Haha We knew each other since primary four. She was well known to be late for school. =P We used to play dance dance revolution together after school. We car pooled to go to tuitions. One funny memory about her. A car ran over one of her slippers and the strap broke when we went clubbing at Soho during New Year Eve back in high school. During my two months break here, we went out to exercise. We went to try line dance, brisk walking in Stutong Park, basketball in St Faith Church and badminton in Stapok. We went window shopping. One thing I will always remember, we went for eyebrow trimming together. Why? It was the first time for the both of us. We bought local anaesthetic spray to spray our eyebrows before going for it. Haha It was damn hillarious as the pharmacist laughed at us and even told us that local anaesthetic spray should be used for eyebrow tattooing. Not eyebrow trimming.

Fiona. My one and only friend who is a musician. haha The first time I met her was in primary one. We used to compete with each other in terms of height. Haha My partner in crime back in primary school. We used to turn the clock in Chinese class to make it end faster and the teacher only realized it after two weeks. Digimon was our favourite game. She left for New Zealand after form three but we are still as close as ever up till now. She is back for good now to work in Kuching. Recently, we met up for food outings almost every day. Coffee and cakes. We will usually play badminton together once a week in Stapok.

I had fun meeting up with Cheryl. One of my closest friends too since primary six. We used to join the Children's Liturgy in church. It was fun. We met up to do manicure and pedicure together. Haha Well, she loves shopping and if you need someone to accompany you to shop, you can always go with her.

Gerald. I met him when I was in form six. Haha He was my only friend whom I met up to study with since the rest of my friends did not need to study. Haha Yes, he was the one who stopped me from procrastinating for almost two months to study in advance for my new semester.

I managed to meet up with my other friends as well especially during Chinese New Year. =D

Elective Posting At Sarawak General Hospital : Third Week

I was attached to Plastic Surgery Department during my third week. Before starting my first day there, I thought I would be able to see face lift, mole removal, pimple removal, botox treatment and collagen injections. After spending one week there, I realized what I thought I would see only exist in a private hospital. In a government hospital, I saw patients with cleft palate going for palatoplasty, cleft lip with congenital hydrocephalus, spina bifida occulta and hypoplastic left lung going for lip repair, curbuncle at left nasolabial and upper lip going for saucerization and left temporal basal cell carcinoma going for wide local excision and full thickness skin graft. Other than that, I saw patients with different degrees of burns. I learned how to manage a patient with burns and how to do different types of dressings from Sister Paat. On every Monday and Wednesday, there will be operations in the operation theatre. Diana and I followed the plastic surgeon into the operation theatre to watch the operations. Basically, a lip repair takes about an hour and a palatoplasty takes about two hours. There will be follow ups in the clinic every Thursday and Friday.

Elective Posting At Sarawak General Hospital : Second Week

During the second week, I was attached to Accident and Trauma department. On the first day, Sister Then brought us around the department. Basically, there are 3 zones in the department. Green, Yellow and Red zones (least severe case to most severe case).

There is also an isolation room for H1N1 cases.

The patients in the isolation room for H1N1 cases will communicate with the doctors through a phone.

Patients with H1N1 who are stable will stay in this room

Patients with H1N1 who are critically ill will stay in this room which is part of the Red zone

Other than that, there is a room for resuscitation, a room for X ray, two rooms for dressings and a room for operation. There are two teams for ambulance call. When the buzzer rings three times, first team will go out and when the buzzer rings two times, the second team will go out. If the buzzer rings once only, it means a patient has been transferred from yellow zone to red zone. There are two Accident and Trauma physicians in the department. Every day, there are many different cases. Road traffic accident is one of the most common cases every day there. Every Wednesday and Thursday, the doctors will have discussions among themselves. During my week there, they had a discussion on non traumatic acute abdomen. The diagnosis includes history, physical examination and imaging such as computed tomography scan, abdominal X ray and ultrasound. As for the management, it includes resuscitation (Airway, Breathing and Circulation), surgical intervention and close monitoring. Sometimes, my friends and I would follow the patients to be scanned.

Elective Posting At Sarawak General Hospital : First Week

The first department that I was attached to for one week was Cardiology department. Dr Tan was the clinical cardiologist for that week. Every morning, there will be a discussion among the doctors in the seminar room. They will discuss their cases and decide for the best management for each case. Besides, a medical journal related to cardiology will also be presented if there is one. We started with ward rounds in the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU). Over there, I saw patients with rheumatic fever, pericardial effusion and bronchiectasis. Then, we continued with ward rounds in the Cardiac Thoracic wards. There, I saw a real rectal examination for the first time other than a rectal examination on a dummy or in a video. Haha I also saw patients with pedal oedema, heart failure, typical angina, triple vessels block and valvular heart diseases. For valvular heart diseases, the most common case was mitral regurgitation. Other than that, I saw a patient with a pacemaker and her pacemaker actually dropped out but the leads were stuck in her heart. It was difficult to pull out the leads due to long term fibrosis. The doctors are still deciding on what to do with her. I did physical examintaions on the patients. I managed to feel for a collapsing pulse. Lastly, we did ward rounds in the female and male medical and surgical wards where we only looked at patients with cases related to cardiac in origin. The most common case there was acute coronary syndrome. I did physical examinations on the patients too. I managed to listen to a systolic murmur from a patient with vasculitis and feel for a irregularly irregular pulse from a patient with atrial fibrillation. Dr Tan taught my friends and I about pulse deficit. After the ward rounds, we went to the Cardiac clinic to look at patients who came for echocardiogram and International Normalized Ratio (INR) follow up.

Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital

During my semester 3, we were posted to Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital for 4 days and 3 nights for our rotation posting. Kuala Kubu Baru is situated in Hulu Selangor and it takes about 3 hours to reach there from my campus.

We went there by bus on a Sunday.

I saw buffalos on the way to Kuala Kubu Baru.

We reached there in the evening and we had a briefing before going to our hostels. The girls had to stay in the nurse hostel (3 floors including ground floor) in the hospital itself and the guys had to stay in the houses nearby the hospital. I chose the first floor. We were lucky enough to experience the Pasar Malam there that evening. Some of us drove there so we did not have to walk to the town. Every night, the town is dead by 9pm. If you are looking for a slow and peaceful life in a town with just 'kedai runcit', Kuala Kubu Baru is an ideal place for you.

I spent the rest of my 3 nights on this bed. We had to bring everything on our own except for the mattress.

The first night, most of my friends and I were not used to the nurse hostel. It was so difficult for us to take a shower. The handle to hang our towels and clothes were so rusty that we did not dare to hang anything on it. We had to bring a few plastic bags each to put our towels and clothes.

Kuala Kubu Baru is famous for its waterfall. It is a tourist spot. Even though I did not have a chance to go to the waterfall, I experienced my own Kuala Kubu Baru waterfall whenever I on the tap in the bathroom.

During that week, it was just a few more weeks to our final exam. All of us brought our books to read but nothing went into our heads even though we tried our best to read. We were just not used to the place yet.

We had to wake up early the next morning. Everyone had to work in a pair. Our lecturer assigned one patient to each pair. I paired up with Sim. We had to take a full history followed by a physical examination on the patient assigned to us. Our first patient was from Bangladesh. He suffered from dengue. We even learned a few words in Bangladesh language from him. Haha

The next day, we had a patient with Down Syndrome so we had to share patient with my friends. We could not get any information from our own patient. It was a great experience. I heard crackles and wheezes through my stethoscope for the very first time. Other than that, I actually felt a thrill at the aortic area with my palm for the very first time too from a patient with hypertension. I also heard murmurs and added heart sounds for the very first time from the same patient.

We also went to the accident and emergency department, labour ward (no chance to watch a delivery), mortuary, out patient department and physiotherapy unit.

We had a great time at the physiotherapy unit. =D

We went out to eat every night for dinner. The last night there, we had seafood. Haha

My friends and I will practise our clinical skills together once a week to prepare ourselves for our final exam at the end of this year. One fine morning, we went crazy (probably due to stress) and while doing practising our rectal examination skills, we took a picture of the hole where we had to insert our fingers into it and do a 360 degrees sweep before taking out our fingers.

It was just 2 months ago that I sat for my summative test ( Cardiovascular system and respiratory system). In 1 week time, I will be sitting for my Mock Objective Summative Clinical Examination. In 2 weeks time, I will be sitting for my summative test again (Haematology system and Gastrointestinal System). Then, in 1 month time, I will be sitting for my End Of System examination which includes all the 4 systems. To make life busier, I have Objective Summative Clinical Examination for 2 days right after my End Of System examination. In between my 'all about tests and examinations' life, I have to do my clinical rotation at Kuala Kubu Baru hospital for a week. Just before starting the next semester next year, I have to do my elective at Sarawak General Hospital for 3 weeks.

It was our first time trying to make santan jelly. Despite being our first time, we were so ambitious that we wanted to make more than one layer. We were supposed to put the santan as the top layer but we did it the other way round because we did not know.

A Night in Klang

Back for a new semester

I was so sad to leave Kuching yesterday morning. I was supposed to go back to Kuching on the 23rd of May but in the end, I booked a new air ticket to go back on the 13th of May. I did not reconfirm my flight after ignoring the first air ticket so when I wanted to check in yesterday, I almost went into their waiting list. Luckily the flight was not full. Thank god. My flight was delayed to 910am instead of 820am and due to that, the taxi driver whom I have booked could not pick me at KLIA. In the end, I had to use another taxi to go back to Vista Komanwel. When I reached my place, I had to clean up my dusty room. It took me so long to clean up. Amanda came to find me after that and we went to Carrefour together to eat dinner at Esquire Kitchen. We did some groceries shopping too after that.

Few days ago, I went to Bako National Park with my friends. We wanted to take the petra jaya bus (rm2 per person) there from the open air market but we missed it. In the end, we decided to take a van (rm10 per person) there instead because we did not want to wait for another hour for the next petra jaya bus to arrive. haha It was faster and we reached there at the same time as the petra jaya bus that we missed. The entrance fee was rm10 and the boat trip was rm94 per boat for a return trip.

Few weeks ago, we suddenly had this idea to climb Mount Santubong. I have never climbed any mountain before except for Mount Singai. Even then, I did not climb till the summit. After deciding whether to climb Mount Santubong or not for a few days, we finally went to climb it this morning. We started our journey from Kuching at 7.30am after having breakfast together at Hui Sing. We reached there about 8.15am. We wanted to take the steeper but shorter route but it was not safe to park the car at that short cut area. In the end, we had to take the longer route. We all paid rm1 each as an entrance fee.

We managed to climb till F5 and then, I felt so exhausted... I drank 2 bottles of water and I felt like giving up. Haha Well, I did give up in the end and I managed to climb till F5 only. It was actually very far. To reach the summit, we have to climb till F15. It looked so far away to me. I was very happy that I reached 1/3 of the mountain. Haha Luckily I did not climb any further because it was so tiring to climb down. It was very tough too. Steep and slippery. Only certain areas have ropes to hold. I fell down a few times (oh well it has been a long time since I fell down so its ok haha!) Besides, it was a new experience to slip and fall in the jungle. haha

Two days after my trip to Damai Beach, I went to Two (Together We Overcome) Camp which was organized by the Hope Church. Candy Su asked Crystal and I to join the camp. I shared room with 6 people. The room in Santubong is bigger than the room in Damai Beach so it could fit the 7 of us. I enjoyed myself especially during the Amazing Race even though it was damn tiring and hot. The whole camp reminds me of my IMU orientation where we had to design our group flag, come out with our cheer and fight cheer. IMU orientation was more rough and tiring though. At least I did not injure myself during any obstacle course like how I cut my knees during the Comando crawl in IMU orientation.

During week 9 of my semester 2, my batch went to Hospital Tunku Jaafar and Hospital Port Dickson. We went there by bus at 6am. We were assigned to different wards to learn from the nurses working there.

Yes, I am finally alive to blog again. For the past few months, I was busy preparing for my EOS 2 and it finally ended yesterday morning!! SAQ was a killer to us but luckily, there were OSPE and OBA as salvation pathways. I just got back to Kuching this morning. I finally managed to just relax in the plane by sleeping or listening to my mp3 without trying to recall what I had memorised or reading my lecture notes in the plane (I had been doing that for the last few times when I was flying back to Kuching)

My life in Semester 2

Basically, I am not as free as last year when I was in Semester 1. I came back for my Semester 2 on the 1st of February and ever since then, I never have the time to blog. For this semester, I am taking Microbiology (Oh, I "love" microbiology), Pathology, Immunology, Pharmacology, Parasitology and Community Medicine. We just finished our Microbiology and guess what? After studying about bacteria, virus and fungus from the lecture notes and under the microscope, I am having a Streptococcus infection on my face right now. It started off with really red lines on my face and I thought it was an allergy. It became worse after one week and I had to go and see a doctor at Sri Petaling. The doctor told me it was a Streptococcus infection. Right now, it is healing after I took the antibiotic and applied the antibacterial cream but I am still having the Streptococcus infection on my face.

I can just imagine these chains of coccus on my face even though I cannot see them

I have to go to the Clinical Skills Unit once in 2 weeks too. So far, they taught us how to take a proper history from a patient, how to do hand washing, gloving and gowning with the correct technique, how to give intramuscular injection and how to dispose the syringes properly.

I have to sit for my CPR theory exam next Monday. It is free for the first time but if we fail, we have to pay to resit. We have to pass the theory exam before we can go for out practical exam.

My AIR topic assignment will be due at the end of March. We have to do a research on targeting antigens on tissues using Immunohistochemistry. Yeah, in short, this is an update about my life in semester 2 at the moment.

The good news will be... I will be going back to Kuching for the weekend from next Friday till the following Monday with Nicole and Hazel. :D

Chinese New Year Visiting 2009

I go for chinese new year every year with almost the same group of people. Haha Well, I visited more houses this year compared to other years as I went visiting with the rest of my friends everyday from 1st day till 5th day. This is also the first time that I embarrassed myself during Chinese New Year visiting. I wanted to visit my student's house but I actually drove to the wrong house. He told me it was opposite Upwell at Jalan Song and I just assumed it was the first big bungalow. That was not the worst part. The worst part was when I was still calling my student to open the gate for me, the gate was already opened for me to drive in. I hanged up since the gate was already opened. Then, I went down from the car with Jacqueline, Xu Vin and Gerald. To my surprise, an unknown guy opened the door and he was so puzzled. He asked us for who we were looking for. When I mentioned my student's name, he said there was not such person. *?*?*@# At that moment, we realized we went to the wrong house and we had to say sorry to him. He said nevermind and even wished us Happy Chinese New Year. He asked us which university were we from. Yeah, he must be thinking that UKM and IMU students are so dumb to go to the wrong house. Anyway, he closed the gate right after we drove out.

Before leaving Oliver's house, Xu Vin's brother decided to hide Jacqueline's heels by hanging them on different flower pots since she would only be leaving later. One month break in Kuching

I'll be having a one month break in Kuching and I'll only be going back to KL on the 1st of February. =D I celebrated my New Year Eve in Midvalley with Pauline, Shu Ling and Zhi Lin. Pauline stayed over at my place for a night. Anyway, I reached Kuching the next morning, feeling tired due to the lack of sleep. I started my Community Oriented Project on the 7th of January with my coursemate, Diana at Community Based Rehabilitation Centre in Ong Tiang Swee. We communicated and worked with the intellectually disabled young adults. It was a great experience to do packaging work with them and play with them. I taught a girl how to speak english and she taught me how to speak foochow. Haha What a great exchange.

Other than doing my community oriented project, I went to cut and highlight my hair with Grace at the Spring. Both of us chose copper red. We walked around looking for chinese new year clothes too.

I miss Kuching

It is 5 more days to home sweet home. I will be going back to Kuching next Friday night. =D My exam is on the 31st of December. What a day for an exam. Anyway, I will be back in Kuching for a week during my study break. Two weeks ago, I went to Sunway Lagoon with Sze Ying, Hazel and Wei Thing. That was during their last weekend in KL. Sze Ying and Hazel woke up earlier to make sandwiches for our lunch there. We took a taxi there and as soon as we reached the entrance after buying our tickets, the security guard wanted to check our bags to make sure no outside food/drinks. We had to pour our mineral water away and bring in our empty bottles. I find it ridiculous as they asked us to pour our water away and refill the free water from the water cooler.. We managed to sneak in the food as after showing our empty bottles to them, they didn't check our bags anymore with the food inside. Hehe It was drizzling at first so we decided to go to the water theme park first. When we wanted to go to the toilet to change, we went into the wrong toilet. We walked into the Male toilet and I was shocked to see all the guys there. It took me a while to realize that we went into the wrong toilet. Haha Basically, only Sze Ying and I played most of the rides there because the other two didn't want to. We were pretty exhausted by the time we reached the amusement theme park. Haha Especially after walking across the 400m+ suspension bridge. At first we planned to have dinner at Sunway Pyramid but by the time we reached there, we were too exhausted to even walk so we decided to go home to sleep instead and just have dinner by buying the food outside Vista B and eat at Hazel's place.

As for last Saturday, Gerardine came down from Singapore for 2 nights and she stayed with me. We went out to eat dim sum at Sri Petaling for breakfast on Sunday. She chia me for breakfast there. Then I went home to study and she went out on her own. At night, we went to Ampang Point for dinner. She chia me at the Korean Nak Won Restaurant. We had korean food for dinner. hehe RM100+ but it was worth it considering the food we had there.

Trip to Genting Highlands

Nicole and I went to Genting Highlands to join her mum for a night yesterday afternoon. It was fun. We reached there at around 2.30pm and we felt hungry so we ate wedges at KFC.

After that, we decided to walk around. We didn't play at the theme park. For dinner, Nicole's mum brought us to Mushroom Farm Seafood Restaurant. It's been a long time since I had such nice food for dinner ever since I am here. We had butter prawns, fish, mushroom and soup with rice. For dessert, we had fruits including durians. hehe

After dinner, Nicole and I went to Snow World. It was really fun especially when we sat in the floats and played with the ice slides. We threw snow at each other and took pictures in there. Haha

Anyway, we went back to our room after that to sleep. The next morning, we went to Ripley's Believe It or Not. We spent an hour+ in there.

There was a mirror next to this picture for people to try to roll their tongues like the man in the picture. I tried doing it many times and after that, I realized the mirror wasn't an ordinary mirror. People from the other side of the mirror could look at me doing stupid faces at them. Lol I looked like an idiot to them.

Patient Interview

We have our patient interview starting from this week onwards. It's under our Behavioral Science. For my semester and the next semester, we only have to interview normal patients. As for my semester 3, we have to interview patients who are very angry and come to see the doctor by banging on the door or wall. Then, for semester 4, we have to interview patients who are very sad and depressed. We have to break very sad news to them too such as they have cancer etc. Anyway, the lecturers taught us how to interview patients in the correct way. We are not allowed to use any medical jargon at all. I didn't know words like symptoms, associated symptoms, history, radiate are considered as medical jargons. We are not allowed to use those words when we talk to patients as they might not understand. We were asked to use lay-man terms and explanation instead. Our assessment on patient interview will be in a few weeks time. Now, we get to practise to interview patients.

Our lecturers showed us videos on good and bad interviews with patients and they even acted out for us to see in our lecture hall this morning.

After my lectures, I had to go for my PBL session on digestive system. Then, my orientation group friends and I went to KFC for lunch.

A Busy Week

Last week was a rather busy week to me compared to my usual weeks. We had lectures, pbl, case study for behavioral science and new air (assigned independent reading) topic to work on with the deadline on the 31st of December which is also the date for my final exam. Anyway, for the air topic, we were asked to write a report on Human Genome Project and we must include the techniques used to sequence the human genome, key findings regarding the human genome in terms of number of genes, % of coding genes etc, the benefits in treating diseases and the ethical and legal consideration that has arised from this project. Since the references were given for us to find, KIASU people (I was one of them) ran straight to the library after lecture to get hold of the journals. In the end, we shared. Haha Yeah, kiasu but sharing. Other than that, I went to play pool at the student lounge with Agnes and Shu Ling after lectures. Yes, it is still a very addictive game to me though not as addictive as it used to be when I was in secondary school. I haven't play pool since I left Kuching and now, I am back to playing pool. Haha

I also went to the Universiti Hospital with my group to help out at the children cancer ward last Wednesday.

I made rabbits for the cancer children and drew those faces. Haha

During the weekends, I went out with Nicole, Hazel and Sze Ying to eat at Sri Petaling. We accompanied Hazel to the clinic to clean her wound at there and at the same time, we had dinner there. Oh yeah, that was my second time going to the clinic with Hazel. During the first time, Hazel went to tell the doctor that I was doing Medicine and that doctor asked me so many questions about her Sebaceous Cyst, when I am just in Semester 1. Lol I couldn't answer any of his questions. Here's the conversation I had with him.

Dr. Cheong: Do you know what is a sebaceous cyst?
Me: No
Dr Cheong: Do you know the symptoms for sebaceous cyst?
Me: No
Dr Cheong: Do you know when do people get a sebaceous cyst?
Me: No
Dr Cheong: Better read about it.

I was sick of saying no that in my heart, I felt like asking him a lame question back. "Do you know how to kill an Indian? Just press the red button on the forehead and the indian will explode." Guess what? Luckily I didn't ask him that because after a few days I found out from Hazel that his wife is an Indian.

We were unlucky as there was no electricity. We wanted to eat at pizza hut but they couldn't serve us. Then, we tried KFC, MB etc but to no avail. In the end the electricity came back and we had our dinner at pizza hut.

We have Monday (tomorrow) as a public holiday for Deepavali in IMU. I came back to Kuching on Friday afternoon right after my morning lectures. It is so nice to be at home again right now. I reached Kuching at 2.40pm and I had my pork chop noodles with my lover milky tea with pearls. I reinstalled my microsoft office too. For dinner, I went to Jalan Song. I miss the food there! haha Anyway, the next day, I went to eat Penang Kueh Tiaw and cha kueh for breakfast at Bormill with Gerald. He passed me stpm trial papers for my cousin who will be sitting for stpm too next month. I managed to meet up with Cheryl and Edmund too in church. Today is a Sunday and I just came back from a morning jog at friendship park. Other than that, I have been spending my time with my family and revising my lecture notes and books at home. I enjoy it here because it is so much more comfortable to be at home than kl. I have just completed and submitted my assignment online last night. It was a report on Reactions towards Illness where we had to write about the crisis theory, illness related factors, personal factors, physical factors and the coping strategies for illness. I will be going back to Kl tomorrow afternoon. It is definitely very worth it to come back for 4 days. I have to wait for another 52 days to be back in Kuching again for christmas after this. By then, it will be a study marathon break for me since my finals will be on the 31st of December.

Wei Thing's 20th birthday

Last Sunday was Wei Thing's 20th Birthday. We planned a small birthday party for her at her Vista C. First of all, we ordered a half kg chocolate cake for her. Then, we bought super duper ah lien clothes for her to wear during her birthday. Other than that, we ordered food from Domino's pizza for her birthday party too.

I only found out my own blood group two days ago. During that afternoon, I had to go to the lab for my basic haematology practical. All of us had to perform a finger prick using the softclix pro lancing device and then prepare a peripheral blood smear.

Two days ago, they distributed the stethoscopes to us. We had to attend a talk on it after that. During the talk, we were taught how to handle and take care of our stethoscopes properly. There were 10 colours to choose from for our stethoscopes. Ceil blue, black, seaform green, orange, raspberry, red etc.

This is my 7th week in IMU. 2 more weeks to go and it will be half of the semester. Haha I just came back from dinner at Sri Petaling with my friends. My friend drove us to Sweet Bean for dinner. It was raining. I had Honey BBQ and steamed chicken wantan mee. It was delicious. Having dinner and chatting with my friends after a long day is a good way to release stress. I had a tiring day. Everyone was exhausted from it. After attending lectures, we had to go for our medical museum session. We just covered the whole Musculoskeletal System for this semester. During our medical museum session, we were given many questions to do while looking at the models.

It's finally a weekend

I reached here on Monday night with Wei Thing and Nicole. I lost my keys after duplicating a set of the keys so I was hoping that all the duplicated keys could be used. To my disappointment, every key could be used except for the most important one. My room's key! I had to hang out in Nicole's room that night after reaching while waiting for the landlady's son to come to pass me the spare key. Thanks to Nicole. Luckily it didn't take him very long to come. When I finally settled down to sleep, it was already midnight. The next day, when I unpacked my suitcase, I found the original set of keys in one of the small plastic bags. Due to my greediness for food back in Kuching for one week, I was sick for the past 5 days. I had a terrible headache which lasted for many days, fever, sore throat and cough. In short, it was too much heat. I couldn't stand it anymore so I called my cousin to bring me to the doctor two days ago. Now, I am finally well and back to myself again. The lesson is do not be greedy. Lectures and PBL are tough after the Hari Raya break and this just means that I have to work very hard. Out of the five days, I had to climb 4 floors of escalators for 2 days to reach my lecture hall just because it was too early for them to on the escalators. It wasn't that bad compared to the week before my break when I had to climb them everyday. My class is at 8am every morning and if I'm lucky, I don't need to climb them. Haha Ok, I know I am just lazy but well, it is really tiring for me to climb all the way up till the 4th floor. I take it as an early morning exercise for me. haha I will be spending my weekend doing my air topic, PBL research and revision on the lecture notes. Lol

We had our orientation for 2 weeks before we actually started our lecture. We started off by going to our own groups. First of all, we had to come out with our group name and it must be associated with our group number. My group is group 3 so we came up with Threesome. Haha Group 4 was fourplay and group 6 was sex-less. There were 12 groups. We had to come up with a group cheer and fight cheer too. After that, our orientation started off with Ice Age. We had ice breaking for the whole night. We started with dry ice first and then wet ice. During the dry ice, every group had to perform their group cheer in front of everyone.

It was really wet and dirty. The seniors bullied us by putting flour and butter on our hair. They splashed water colour all over us.

We did comando crawl. I injured myself from that. Before they asked to crawl and take the ping pong balls with our mouth, they poured garlic water and put rotten eggs on the ground with other disgusting liquids.

I didn't join this. I had to clean up my wound.

They blindfolded us and asked us to walk with a sponge on the head while they directed us to the pail to drop the sponge in.

We had telematch during the weekends. I missed that as I was too tired from Treasure Hunt the night before. Luckily I missed it. They forced people to eat vegetables!!

We also had signature hunt. We had to hunt for our seniors' signatures in the shortest time with the most signatures.

The seniors asked us to do embarrassing and stupid things before they gave us their signatures.

Other than that, we had Dress Code. The theme was broadway in the 80's so each group was given a movie to act out. My group's movie was 9 to 5. It was about a boss who was very mean to his employees so they planned to kill the boss.

We also had to come up with an individual act and a group act during Variety Night. My group got QC (Quality Control) twice. Haha!! When we got QC, we had to wear stupid banners with words like Loser, Boring etc.

Our orientation ended with Finale Night. The theme was Masquerade so we had to wear masks that night. We started making the masks at Yi Wen's place in the afternoon. We were given chances to bully the seniors that night too. My group had to wear orange.

The most interesting and embarrassing event during the whole Orientation was Track Trip. During track trip, every group was asked to dress like Power Rangers and we had to go the the mall given to us. My group was given Midvalley Megamall. We had to take picture with the worst dressed person and the best dressed person too. Besides, we had to find the most disgusting dessert there and take pictures of us eating it. There was a group who dressed like Power Rangers with weapons to Pavilion and they were chased out by the security guard. Luckily it didn't happen to my group. hehe

I'm finally home. I reached here at 1.15pm with Nicole, Christine and Wei Thing. We were so happy when our plane landed. hehe I went straight to Jade Pot to eat pork chop noodles for lunch. For dinner, I went to Jalan Song to eat my favourite food. It was like heaven to me as I have been eating fast food everyday for 5 weeks except for last night's dinner. Last night, I went out with Nicole, Sze Ying, Wei Thing, Hazel and Rachel. Sze Ying and Wei Thing are doing Pharmacy with Nicole, Hazel is doing Nutrition and Rachel is in USCI. I got to know them in IMU through Nicole. Yes, it was a dinner between ex-teresians and ex-greenians. haha We tried to look for taxis to Sri Petaling to eat steamboat but we couldn't find any so we had to walk there. It was really far to me. To me, it was like from my house to St Teresa. Lol anyway, I walked till my feet were painful but it was worth it because I enjoyed eating steamboat there. The place was called Ho Ho Steamboat Restaurant. One set is rm13.90 and we ordered 4 sets. It was just the right portion for the 6 of us. We kept taking pictures of the food before eating because ever since we came here, we didn't have a chance to eat such nice food but just road side food. Haha Yeah, like kampung people eating in town.

Yes, it is 2 more days to home sweet home. Nicole and I just can't wait for this Saturday to come. =D After staying here for 5 weeks, I'll finally be taking a one week break to go home. It's so far so good for me here. I have a few close friends now to go for lecture with, eat with and hang out with in the campus. They are either from here or Johore. Anyway, I finally bought my own printer after spending rm30 on my printing credit in the campus. My cousin brought me to Plaza Lowyat to buy my printer last Saturday. I spent my last saturday with my cousins in Plaza Lowyat and Sungei Wang. We ate korean food again for lunch. Haha Stress is building up right now since it's Week 4 of lecture now. I had behavioral medicine this morning. Then, I went back to study on my own. In the evening, Nicole and I went to check the atrium as the Catholic Society would be having a buffet dinner (Rm5 each) as a break fast with the malays. Well, I ended up talking to Grace on the phone for 45 minutes. Now, I am going to do pre-reading for tomorrow's lecture notes. Haha

Charity Home Visit

Last Saturday morning, we had a charity home visit. Different groups were assigned to different areas. Some were assigned to visit the old folks and some were assigned to orphanage. My group and another group were assigned to visit the orphanage at Ti-Ratana. We went there at 9am by bus. Basically, we were supposed to entertain the children there. We organized games for them to play, performed on stage for them like singing and dancing, taught them origami, gave them sweets and talked to them. Children today are different from children in the past. When my friend Agnes and I distributed bars of chocolates to some of the children around us, it was like a typhoon coming towards us. Not only that, they didn't want to share. As in, we asked them to share a bar with one or two other children and guess what? They cried and screamed "I don't want to share!". In the end, we had to keep the chocolates first to prevent them from fighting and crying among themselves. Some children (5 or 6 years old) even knew about love. Lol When I was at that age, it was those days when I bullied guys in tuition. Haha!! Anyway, they asked us questions like "Is he/she your husband/wife?" Then if we tell them no, they would grab and force people to hold each other's hands. Some were very nasty. They would ask you to put your hand on the paper and without telling you, they would lastic your hand. Some would get angry and hide behind the pillars when we didn't want to give them the chocolates yet. lol But some were really nice children. Out of all the children, there was this boy (2 years old) who was very cute. Many people took turn to carry him because he was just too cute. His parents left him there with his older sister (4 years old) due to marriage dispute. He didn't look happy but we still kept carrying him. haha We went back at around 1pm. It was a fun but tiring day.

Yes, just look at his face. I think he was mad as people kept carrying him and taking his picture. Haha Basically, during some of the weekends, we will sacrifice our time to do charity home visits. We will also be visiting the Hospital Umum Kuala Lumpur to visit the children cancer wards. Different groups will be assigned to different wards. We are supposed to learn how to talk to parents who have children who are going to die, how to deal with the children there who are going through hair loss and chemotherapy etc. Most importantly, try to make the children happy.

Mooncake Festival

It is mooncake festival today. I celebrated it with my cousins at Nak Won Korean Restaurant which is situated in Ampang. Hehe Ah Ing came to pick me from my place at 5pm and we went there for dinner together with her two other younger siblings. It felt so nice to sit in a car and not a taxi or a train for the first time since I reached here. Anyway, we ate till very bloated. Since today is a Sunday, the place was packed with many people. We chose the place to sit on the floor to eat and guess what? At the end of the dinner when we wanted to stand up, my feet felt numb. haha We had mooncakes too before leaving. They couldn't find the chinese mooncakes because they were all sold out and they had to buy western mooncakes from starbucks. haha After eating, we went to a korean supermarket. They went to buy kimchi to make the soup and as for me, I bought many korean chewing gums and lollipops. Haha!

First Day of Class

First day of class was fine. I came in just in time for the lecture to start. We had a briefing by our course coordinator and then, we had our first lecture. Basically, it was nothing new yet. What the lecturer taught was Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 of the form 6 syllabus. Just that, he taught in an hour time. When i entered the auditorium, I couldn't find my friends so I sat with unknown people. These unknown people are very very kiasu people. They printed their lecture notes in advance. To be exact, few weeks in advance. As for me, I thought I would only print them after class but now, I change my mind after looking at them. After class, I went straight to the E lab to print my lecture notes in advance too. For this whole week. Then, there was this girl who even edited the lecture notes with her Campbell Book next to her. After looking at her, I plan to read my Campbell book too. Lol Its very competitive here because many of my coursemates are doing Medicine as their second degree. Yes, I am kiasu again. After resting for months. Anyway, we were given our Assigned Independent Reading topic and I have to make a summary on factors causing reactions to illness and submit it online by 31st of October. Other than that, I have to visit the medical museum in the campus to study on food nutrition of common food this week. Luckily I have internet at my place now. End of Orientation Week

My orientation ended last night. After two tiring weeks. We will start our lessons next week. I have classes mostly in the morning only. Then, in the afternoons and nights I have to do self independent learning. Haha Especially for my Problem Based Learning (PBL). We have PBL 1 and PB2 2. One week for each PBL. It will go on like that. PBL 1 will be the time when we are given a trigger or a patient's case to study. So during the whole entire week, we need to do our own research. For PBL 2, it will be the time when we have to present our work to the others. My first PBL class was last week. We had to do a research on gum bleeding by reading and finding information on the normal oral flora, different types of blood disorders, the anatomy of the oral cavity etc. I am from PBL group 15. Each group is supposed to have 10 people but my group has 9 people only. I am lucky to be in a group where everyone is willing to contribute and socialize with others. Last Friday, I left Kuching for IMU. Amanda, Eva, Amanda's mum, Grace and Eileen sent me off. Grace and Eileen made a very nice poster for me to bring over to my new place. Eileen said since I wouldn't have the time to decorate my room, I could paste the poster up instead. Thanks!! Anyway, I have settled down right now. During the first day, we had to register, collect our white coat and gathered at the auditorium for welcoming speeches. We had to wear our white coat and we had to take the Oath. Alicia came to find me after that. It was very nice to meet someone you know from your own hometown. We are having our orientation right now for 2 weeks. I met many new friends from everywhere. I currently stay at Vista Komanwel with Nicole and Galvin. My condominium is just right opposite IMU. It takes 5 minutes for me to reach IMU. Most of the people here are friendly as long as you make an effort to talk to them. My orientation group members said I was so innocent looking.. Haha!! Last night, Amanda invited my other friends and I for dinner at her house. =D Grace came to pick Eileen and I. She baked chocolate cola cupcakes for sweet people like us to eat. Haha The cupcakes were nice. =D It has been a long time since we gathered at Amanda's house for a dinner like that. I like the crispy tomato mee and chicken curry. Not to forget, the rest of the food. haha Amanda baked bread pudding for us to eat with vanilla ice cream as dessert. After eating, we took some pictures around her house. Since there's a slope at Amanda's house when you want to drive out of her house, we had a little rollercoaster ride there last night when we went back in Grace's car. Her car slided down a bit before going up again. haha We laughed the whole way in the car due to the different funny stories which we told each other. Grace said it was due to the diluted alcohol with sprite. haha Anyway, it was a great night to hang out with my old friends before leaving for KL tomorrow.

Last Saturday, I went to Enter-K with Grace and Eileen after work. At first, we had so much energy to sing but after an hour or so, we all became too tired to sing. haha Instead of singing along, we just sat down on the couch. We had our free of charge food and drinks while watching the people singing in front of us. Haha We didn't take many pictures but we took many videos of us giving out many horrible concerts. haha It wasn't as crazy as my previous karaoke because Grace and Eileen were very neutral and passive type. They didn't jump around the room to dance and sing or lie on the table to sing. We sang mostly sad love songs because Grace liked those songs. Eileen said she couldn't imagine what kind of songs Grace would sing if she were to break up with a guy because those songs were already sad enough for her when she is single now. Haha Not only that, we sang many songs by Britney Spears too because Grace liked her songs. After singing till almost 3pm at Enter-K, we went to Red Tea Road in town to buy bubble milk tea. Eileen didn't drink because she said it was fattening. We went to hang out at Grace's house after that. Eileen wanted to play with her dogs but they kept barking at her. As for me, I stood quite far watching them playing with her dogs because I'm afraid of dogs. Haha I had to leave earlier for church after that.

Prawn Fishing II

Just one day before Alison went back to Singapore, we went for prawn fishing. Alison came to pick Eileen and I. It was supposed to be the 3 of us only because the rest couldn't make it but in the end, we decided to wake Lilian up from dreamland to join us for prawn fishing. Haha When we reached there, we were the only girls again as usual. Eileen said prawn fishing was an old man's hobby to explain the reason that we were the only girls there. We fished for one and a half hour. We managed to catch around 8 or 9 prawns but they were smaller than my previous prawn fishing trip. Thanks to an old man who gave us a few of his prawns too. Haha

My Ambitious Dream to be a Hairdresser

After looking at so many hairdressers cutting their customers' hair, I had this dream to cut my own customers' hair. Guess what? I had my first customer last week. Haha After telling Gerald that I could really cut his hair for quite some time, he finally decided to let me cut his hair. It was my first time trying to cut someone's hair. I thought that it would be easier to cut a guy's hair rather than a girl's hair. I was totally wrong because to me, they are equally hard to cut for someone like me after my first experience. I took more than an hour to cut a simple hairstyle (it wasn't a style at all to be exact). It was a disaster. Whenever he asked me how was it, I told him that it looked fine. Well, I thought it looked fine. I didn't know it was so uneven. When I was finally done with it, he went to the big mirror and he told me that it was uneven and weird. In the end, we had to go to the saloon to fix his hair. This was the conversation between the REAL hairdresser and him:

Hairdresser: Wow! Your hair was too long and your teacher simply cut it for you in school?
Gerald: Erm, yeah. My teacher is my friend too. She told me she knew how to cut so I let her cut.
Hairdresser: She just learned how to cut someone's hair?
Gerald: Yeah, when she was cutting my hair, I felt like crying.
Hairdresser: It's ok. I will fix it for you but I guess she had ruined your front hair. It is too short.

After 30 minutes.... everything went back to normal. Both of us laughed when we stepped out of the saloon. Now, I never dream to be a hairdresser anymore. I doubt I have any second customer too. Haha

The more you exercise, the more you eat

Yesterday, I went for Aerobics with Grace and Amanda. After exercising so hard for half an hour, Grace and I went back as we did not want to do the Yoga. Amanda is my only friend who enjoys doing the Yoga. Anyway, as soon as we stepped out of the place, we already went to 7 Eleven to buy sweet drinks especially me who went to buy a cup of Slurpee to drink. 20% of exercising was gone immediately. Haha We went back to shower and Grace came over to my house after that. She left her car at my place and I drove the both of us to Amanda's place for lunch. It was stupid of us because we should have just driven there with our own cars. Due to our dumbness, I had to drive all the way back to my house to drop Grace off at her car instead of going straight to work from Amanda's house. haha Anyway, I had a nice lunch over there. We ate spare ribs cabbage curry with rice. 50% of exercising was gone. Then, we ate durian cakes, mooncakes and bak kua which she bought back from Ipoh. 200% of exercising was gone. Lol It was a nice lunch. =D

3 In 1 Birthday

3 in 1 birthday is a birthday celebration when 3 people with different birthdates celebrate their birthdays together. Last night, we had a 3 in 1 birthday. In this case, Grace and I celebrated belated birthdays and Eileen celebrated an early birthday. Haha We had steamboat buffet at Swan Teem BBQ steamboat. It was rm20 per person. For our 3 in 1 birthday, Grace and I paid for Eileen, Eileen and Grace paid for me and Eileen and I paid for Grace. Haha! In short, it was actually paying for ourselves but we said it that way to treat each other. Whose idea? Grace's. Haha Eileen said it was a cheapskate idea but oh well, we did enjoy ourselves last night and it was very fun. It has been a rather long time since the 3 of us had so much fun together. haha

A Farewell Dinner

Li Hwa, Eileen and I met up for a dinner at Food&Tea three days ago since Li Hwa would be leaving in two days time. It was our first time trying out the food there. It turned out to be nice except for the herb jelly which was included in the meal.

We took quite long to decide what to eat. Just look at Eileen and Li Hwa who were asking each other what to eat. haha

Laser Tag

My friends and I went to play Laser Tag yesterday afternoon. Laser Tag is like CounterStrike. The only difference is it is not played using a keyboard but with real people. It was RM4 per game. Each game has 2 sections with 10 minutes per section. There are different types of games scenarios to play for each section. For us, we played "Team Elimination". It was fun trying to hide from the other team while trying to shoot them. Basically, we were hiding, running and shooting throughout the whole section. We have to be creative and plan our strategies properly to play well but most of the time, we just charged out and tried to shoot the other team. haha Not only that, we also need to have high stamina because we had to run around. For our first game, we played 3 (Li Hwa, Andrew and I) against 4 (Audrey, Michelle, Gerald and Oliver). After that, Li Hwa and I felt tired to be on the team with 3 people so for the next game, it was boys against girls. Haha

Sunday Night at Amanda's house

Last Sunday, Amanda invited us over to her house for some finger food and drinks. It was another night for my ex classmates and I to catch up with each other.

Malacca Trip 2008

My friends (Crystal and Edward) and I decided to go to Malacca for 2 days and 1 night when we were in KL. We went there in the morning by bus and when we reached Malacca Central, my friend, Wen How was there to pick us up. =) We arrived later than expected as we took the wrong bus. Well, we took the bus which stopped at Alor Gajah before reaching Malacca instead of a direct bus. There were so many cows when our bus drove along the roads at Alor Gajah. We took almost 2 hours to reach Malacca. We went straight to Wen How's house at Bukit Beruang to put our bags before he brought us around Malacca.

Haha Last but not least, Wen How brought us to the Multimedia University for a visit before sending us back to Malacca Central. It was indeed a wonderful and memorable trip. Thanks to Wen How for being such a great host and tour guide!

Prawn Fishing

I have never tried prawn fishing with my friends before till few days ago. The first time I tried prawn fishing was with my cousins at Kenyalang Park. Few days ago, I went prawn fishing with my friends as my second time. As for my 3 friends, it was their first time. haha We went to Kenyalang Park as early as 9.30am as all of us were looking forward to it. We felt disappointed to find the shop closed. Not giving up, we went to another shop at Chonglin Park. It was closed too and at that moment, we felt really disappointed. So much of us being excited to fish for prawns. I didn't want to give up yet so I called my cousin to ask whether Wednesday was a holiday for the prawn fishing shops. It wasn't and we all could not think of a reason why they were closed. Maybe they didn't have any prawns. Haha Anyway, my cousin asked me to try another shop at Tabuan Laru. He told me that the prawns there were much bigger too. Feeling slightly happier, we drove there and guess what? It was opened!! haha

The first thing the lady did for us was chopping the big fat worms into small pieces and putting them on a plate for us as the bait.

Prawn fishing is apparently an almost all-male event with the exception of the 4 of us.

Anyway, besides being the only girls there, we were the noisiest of all too. Whenever we managed to catch a prawn, it was like a big announcement to everyone around us. The way we reacted caused everyone around us to look at us. Like screaming when we managed to pull the rod up and there was a big prawn. Not only that, asking each other to take pictures of the prawn whenever we caught one. No one around us did that. Whenever they managed to catch one, they just quietly put the prawn into their nets. As for us, we pulled the rods up and we didn't dare to take the prawns so we had to ask the lady to help us for every prawn we caught. Despite the fact that it was our first time and we didn't dare to hold the prawns, we were really lucky. The people around us said that too. We caught 7 prawns in the end. Well, actually it should be 9. 1 jumped off from the net and another went off when we tried to catch it from the water surface using our hands. That was actually a free catch for us because it was really at the water surface. I bet the guys would have just put their hands in to grab it but for us, we didn't dare to do that. We took so long to decide whose hands to be in and when Xu Vin finally put her hands in, the prawn disappeared. Haha

It was worth it for us till the lady asked us whether it was our first time. When we told her it was indeed our first time, she said we were lucky. Probably that was why she disappeared and we couldn't find her when we needed her help to put the prawn we caught again into the net. That was why the prawn jumped out from the net as we didn't know how to put it in properly.

Soon, an hour was over and it was time for us to leave.

We brought the prawns back to Amanda's house and her mum cooked for us.

Some of my ex classmates are back for holidays now, some are studying here and some of them including myself will be leaving soon for further studies so we had a gathering last sunday night at Hai Pa Wang. We booked two tables. One was for those who wanted to eat crabs and the other one was for those who didn't want to eat crabs. Haha It was a great time to catch up with each other and talk about the good old days.

Enter-K

Last Friday, my friends and I decided to go to Enter-K at Crown Towers for karaoke. There were 4 of us : Xu Vin, Li Hwa, Amanda and I. Well, we only paid rm15 nett each after showing our student cards to the lady at the counter.

Our lunch and drinks were included.

We started singing at 11.30am. We sang mostly English songs and for most of them, we were more to shouting instead of singing. Haha We shouted and sang so loud that people who were outside tried to look into our room. Amanda and Xu Vin even sang Siti Nurhaliza's songs.

After singing too many English songs, we tried singing songs in other languages like Chinese, Hokkien and Spanish but we were actually just making a big fool out of ourselves because we didn't know to read most of the words. After a while, the waiter served us the free drinks and food that we ordered.

We tried singing "Qi Li Xiang" but it was horrible.

We eventually got tired after singing for hours and we started to take stupid pictures in the room.

We wore the bucket as a hat.

We took pictures of us trying to sing like superstars while waving our hands to our imaginary fans. haha I even wore Amanda's lalat shades to sing in the dark.

We ended our 3 and a half hours karaoke by singing "Everytime we touch" by Cascada till it was 3.00pm. We kept repeating that song for more than 5 times. We became extra hyperactive too and we started to jump around in the room. haha

Xu Vin lost her stamina. Haha

She ended up playing with her phone.

It was indeed a fun but tiring day for all the of us.

3 Apples A Day Keeps 3 Doctors Away

Last night, my neighbour, Johnson walked over to my house to give me 3 different types of apples that he bought after i came back from church and dinner. He told me fruits were important to us and "3 Apples A Day Keeps 3 Doctors Away". Haha =D

Anyway, it is now known as 2 good apples and 1 rotten apple because I have eaten one.

Lunch At Xu Vin's House

Two days ago, Xu Vin prepared lunch on her own at home and when she found out I didn't have any lunch on that day, she was very nice to invite me over to have lunch with her after that. =D
She cooked vegetables and fish curry. The curry was a green curry. It is unique because you cannot find the green curry paste over here in East Malaysia. Hehe
